The 11 shops developed from repurposed shipping containers by the Coimbatore Corporation on Codissia Road have remained vacant for nearly five months after their inauguration, as they are yet to receive a dedicated high-tension (HT) electricity connection.
The project, executed at a cost of around ₹30 lakh, was inaugurated by Coimbatore MP Ganapathy P. Rajkumar in February this year. The initiative was aimed at creating commercial space by repurposing shipping containers.
According to Corporation officials, the shops have not been opened for occupation as the facility is awaiting the installation and energisation of a dedicated HT electricity connection. Once the power connection is provided, the civic body will complete water supply arrangements for the shops.
Officials said the Corporation would then float a tender for allotting the 11 shops.
