The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police registered a total of 522 cases in a two-day special drive conducted against air horns, unauthorised red and blue flashing lights, vehicle modifications and loud music systems in public transport.

    The enforcement drive was held on Monday and Tuesday to curb Motor Vehicle Act violations and enhance road safety.

    District Superintendent of Police A. Pavan Kumar Reddy instructed all Deputy Superintendents of Police to conduct the drive in their respective sub-divisions. Special teams of the police checked vehicles for violations.

    According to the police, 112 cases were registered for the use of air horns. A total of 190 cases were registered against persons who were found to have been driving with vehicles fitted with red and blue LED blinkers. As many as 220 cases were registered for vehicle modifications and other motor vehicle violations. 

    Chettipalayam Inspector M.M. Selvaraghavan said high beam LED lights used in vehicles were also seized during the drive.

    “Several accidents, in which two-wheeler riders were victims, have been reported due to the use of blinding LED headlamps in heavy vehicles and cars. Modified silencers used in two-wheelers were also seized,” he said.
