Srikakulam District Congress Committee president Sanapala Annaji Rao and Srikakulam District Kisan Congress president Kota Madhusudan on Wednesday alleged that the Indian government was compromising on the interests of 11 crore farmers of India as it is all set to have a free trade agreement on July 24 in spite of stiff resistance from all sections of the society. Along with representatives of CPI, CPIM and other organisations, the Congress party leaders organised a massive protest in Srikakulam.

Mr. Rao said that the United States would dump all its agriculture products which would lead to denial of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Indian farmers. He said that import of maize, horticulture crops and would disturb the farm sector in India.

A.P. Rythu Sangham leaders K. Mohana Rao, Polaki Prasada Rao, Srikakualm Tenant Farmers Association’s General Secretary Velamala Ramana and others were present. In another meeting held in Indira Vignan Bhavan, the Congress leaders slammped forcible arrests of opposition leader Rahul Gandhi who had staged protest to oppose violence against youngsters in New Delhi.
