The BJP on Thursday accused the Congress of avoiding a discussion in Parliament on the paper leak issue and attempting to politicise students’ protests by creating an atmosphere of confrontation on the streets.

Addressing a press conference in Shimla, BJP state president Rajeev Bindal alleged that the Congress leadership had violated democratic norms by choosing agitation over parliamentary debate.

“If Congress truly cared about the interests of students, it would have raised the issue in Parliament, offered constructive suggestions and helped find a solution. Instead, it stalled Parliament, incited protests on the streets and indulged in political drama,” he claimed.

Bindal alleged that attempts to march towards the Prime Minister’s residence, surround the BJP headquarters and create confrontation were not demonstrations of democracy but efforts to challenge constitutional institutions.

He said the Prime Minister and the Centre were committed to safeguarding the future of students and had decided that all paper leak cases would be tried in fast-track courts to ensure speedy disposal and strict punishment for those responsible.

According to Bindal, the Centre acted promptly after the paper leak came to light by ordering a CBI investigation, arresting the accused, conducting the examination again and introducing extensive technical reforms in the examination system. He said the decision to establish fast-track courts sent a clear message that those attempting to play with the future of students would face stringent legal action.
