The Congress has criticised the ruling AINRC-BJP combine for its failure to prevent the functioning of illegal pharmaceutical companies in Puducherry.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee chief V. Vaithilingam said after the AINRC-BJP combine came to power in the Union Territory, several cases pertaining to the manufacturing of spurious drugs have surfaced in Puducherry.

Last year, illegal drug manufacturing units were busted, and arrests were made by the police. The case was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Now, another case involving the functioning of an illegal drug manufacturing firm has emerged in the territory. There are reports that illegally manufactured drugs in Puducherry were smuggled to foreign countries, he said.

“Several of the accused arrested in the first case have come out on bail. The government has failed to prevent culprits from using Puducherry’s territory for such illegal activities,” he said.

Mr. Vaithilingam said the Congress party would vehemently raise the NEET paper leak in the Parliament. “We will continue to raise the issue till the Education Minister submits his resignation,” he said.
