The police have registered a case after 2,361 metres of copper cable worth ₹78 lakh meant for the Bengaluru Metro Phase-II was allegedly stolen from a BMRCL central store near M. Chinnaswamy Stadium over a period of nearly a month despite the premises being equipped with CCTV cameras and security personnel.

According to the complaint filed by a contractor for the Namma Metro Phase II, the theft came to light on June 26 during an inspection of copper cables at the BMRCL Phase-II Central Store near BRV Junction, behind the stadium.

Subsequent scrutiny of CCTV footage allegedly revealed that unidentified persons stole the cables on multiple occasions between March 1 and April 1, indicating that the thefts were carried out over several days rather than in a single incident.

The thefts allegedly occurred despite security personnel being deployed at the site and CCTV cameras being installed on the premises, raising questions over the security arrangements.

Based on the complaint, the Cubbon Park police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation. The police are examining CCTV footage, security records and other evidence to identify those involved in the repeated thefts and recover the stolen property.

Further investigation is under way.
