Vancouver Canucks fans on social media reacted to the hiring of a new coaching staff under head coach Manny Malhotra. The club recently named Ryan Mougenel, Jordan Smith, and Jason Krog as assistant coaches, while Andrew Shaw was appointed as assistant to the video coach.
While the Canucks filled the vacancies in their coaching department, the incoming staff is relatively inexperienced. None of the new hires come with the pedigree of having full-time NHL coaching experience.
It may sound surprising to many Canucks enthusiasts, but the strategy behind these moves is reportedly driven by cost-cutting measures as the team transitions into a full rebuilding phase.

Former top prospect forward Shane Wright has reportedly named the Vancouver Canucks as his preferred trade destination.
According to Postmedia’s Ben Kuzma, Wright has already requested a trade out of Seattle, with his agent confirming positive discussions with Kraken GM Jason Botterill about moving him this summer.
Now that Wright has expressed interest in Vancouver, the Canucks, who need a young center, are intrigued by the idea of landing him. The 22-year-old Burlington, Ontario, native was drafted No. 4 overall by the Kraken in the 2022 NHL Draft. Last season, he notched 27 points (12 goals and 15 assists) in 74 games.
