The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government waive bank loans availed by beneficiaries of TIDCO houses at Dabbanda village, alleging that poor families were under severe financial strain due to loan repayments and inadequate infrastructure.
A rally was held from Jagadamba Junction to the Collectorate, where CPI district secretary Sheikh Rahiman and Dabbanda TIDCO Welfare Society president Bhanu Pradeep addressed the protest.
They alleged that beneficiaries had paid deposits of ₹50,000 in two instalments under the TIDCO housing scheme and were later required to mortgage their allotted houses for bank loans. They claimed beneficiaries had already paid nearly ₹90,000 each through EMIs and were facing recovery notices from banks.
The leaders also alleged that basic amenities, including schools, parks, a primary health centre, public transport and essential shops, promised at the time of allotment had not been provided.
A memorandum was submitted to the District Revenue Officer, who, according to the organisers, assured them that the grievances would be examined. The protesters also sought RTC bus services to Dabbanda.
