CPI’s Andhra Pradesh State secretary G. Eswaraiah has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to respond to the indefinite hunger strike by environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk, while demanding the dismissal of Union HRD Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the conduct of NEET.

Addressing a press conference in Vijaywada on Friday, Mr. Eswaraiah said the CPI stood in solidarity with Mr. Wangchuk, and urged the Prime Minister to meet him and address concerns over the alleged NEET paper leak and examination irregularities. He claimed the controversy had affected nearly 23 lakh students and their families, calling for a transparent inquiry and action against those responsible.

Describing Mr. Wangchuk as a globally respected environmentalist and innovator, Mr. Eswaraiah said considering his contributions to water conservation and technology for soldiers, his protest deserved immediate attention.

The CPI leader also demanded better service conditions for nearly five lakh Home Guards across the country, seeking recognition as Group C or D employees, and resolution of pending mutual transfer issues between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

He further urged the Andhra Pradesh government to provide drought relief in Rayalaseema and North Andhra by renewing crop loans, extending fresh credit and implementing mitigation measures.

Opposing the proposed second phase of land acquisition for Amaravati, Mr. Eswaraiah alleged that the government planned to expand the capital region by acquiring more fertile farmland, and demanded that the proposal be withdrawn.

CPI State Secretariat members D. Jagadish, Tatipaka Madhu and Donepudi Shankar were present.
