India’s semifinal hopes were dashed in heartbreaking fashion after losing to England 0-1 in the tie-breaker in the women’s pairs bowls event on Sunday
With the loss, India finished third in Group A, behind England and Namibia who have booked their place in the semifinals.
After losing to Namibia earlier in the day, India, needing a win to stay alive in the competition, started well as the pair of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki took the first set 4-3.
However, England’s Amy Pharaoh and Sian Honnor pulled things back in the second set with some seriously precise throws, winning 10-3.
In the tie-breaker round, India were within touching distance of closing on the win but England nailed its final throw to seal the deal by the finest of margins.
For Pinki and Rupa Rani, its a disappointing end to their campaign considering the duo had begun with two wins, and was part of the gold-medal winning team in the 2022 edition.
