The cybercrime police in Coimbatore on Thursday arrested two more men in a case wherein a group of five persons duped a trader of ₹38,000 by posing as police officers in May this year.
B. Sabari (25) of Pachchapalayam and K.Vinu (21) of Nehru Nagar west were arrested by a special team. The police are on the lookout for a fifth person.
Sabari’s father C. Binny (51) and their accomplice Kishore Kumar (21) of Saravanampatti had been arrested on July 13.
According to the cybercrime police, the accused contacted a 26-year-old trader hailing from a north Indian State, who runs a shop in the city, by posing as police officers. The accused threatened the trader that a case would be registered against him for watching and sharing pornographic content.
They received ₹38,000 from the trader through an online transaction to spare him from being booked. The trader later realised that it was a scam and he approached the cybercrime police. An investigation was launched and the four accused were arrested.
A police officer said that Sabari and Vinu had been involved in other cases too.
