A week after the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Solan Municipal Corporation (MC), the Urban Development Department is yet to notify their appointment in the state gazette.
In the absence of this notification, the duo was unable to assume charge of their respective posts.
It was on April 21 that the tenure of last municipal corporation had ended and fresh elections were announced. The civic body’s working has since then been hamstrung since the last over two-and-a-half month as the state government has been delaying the poll processes.
Despite holding the election on May 17, the results were declared after a fortnight on May 31 while the Mayoral elections concluded on July 2.
BJP state General Secretary Sanjeev Katwal — while flaying the state government for this delay — said the people of Solan are directly bearing the brunt of the Congress government's administrative negligence. “Even after completion of the electoral process on July 2, the MC has not been formally constituted, hitting development works.”
He added that unnecessary delay in notifying their appointment has also dashed the hopes of the residents who are facing problems in securing essential certificates.
The Solan MC Municipal Corporation has been effectively inactive since mid-April. The government is only talking about alternative arrangements, but on the ground, public work is being affected.
Katwal alleged that the Congress government's administrative apathy and delays in decision-making have hampered the city's development.
He demanded the immediate issuance of the said notification for completing the democratic process to enable the elected representatives to assume their duties.
