Delhi minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Wednesday said the CJP's 'Parliament March' was "not peaceful" and its organisers must be held accountable for "outright lawlessness", which left scores of police personnel and protesters injured.
The minister, who is also an MLA from the New Delhi Assembly constituency, the epicentre of the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party protest on the NEET paper leak at Jantar Mantar, cited the incident of protesters "assaulting" an RAF jawan and accused the outfit of putting the lives of citizens and security personnel at risk.
Singh, who is the PWD minister in Delhi, shared a video clip on X that showed a mob chasing and attacking a Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawan. "A protester kicks an RAF personnel to the ground, after which the mob surrounds and assaults him. This is not a peaceful protest. It is outright lawlessness. Those who organised and backed these protests must be held accountable for putting the lives of citizens and security personnel at risk," said Singh.
The area witnessed widespread chaos, stone pelting and lathi charge during the 'Parliament March' organised by the outfit demanding resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The Delhi Police have registered 10 FIRs so far in connection with violence, vandalism and other incidents during the "Sansad Chalo" march organised by the CJP.
The cases were registered at Parliament Street, Connaught Place and other police stations, and invoke multiple provisions in connection with assault, taking the law into one's own hands and other related offences. The Delhi Police have also faced criticism and charges of brutality with dozens of videos on social media showing clashes between the police personnel and protesters amid lathi charges, tear gas shelling and stone pelting.
According to the police, 118 police and paramilitary personnel and more than 60 protesters were injured in clashes during the march on Monday. One girl, who was critically injured, was admitted to the RML Hospital. Seventy protesters were detained by the police, all of whom were later released.
