The Vice & Principals Association of Delhi (VPAD) has urged the Directorate of Education (DoE) to intervene over the large-scale deployment of government school teachers for election-related duties, warning that the move was disrupting classroom teaching, affecting student safety and hampering the overall functioning of schools.

In a letter addressed to the DoE, dated July 14, the association expressed strong opposition to the deputation of teachers as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) duties.

The association said schools across Delhi were struggling to function normally due to the shortage of teaching staff caused by poll assignments.

“The deployment of a substantial number of teachers for prolonged election-related duties has severely affected the normal functioning of schools. Heads of schools are finding it increasingly difficult to effectively implement the prescribed Child Safety SOPs as adequate staff presence and supervision are essential for ensuring the safety and security of students,” the letter read.

The association requested the DoE to take up the issue with the election authorities and evolve a coordinated mechanism for deputations.
