Since making his MLB debut in 2005, Justin Verlander has spent 21 seasons at the top level of baseball. He has enjoyed plenty of success, earning 10 All-Star selections, three Cy Young awards, an AL MVP award and winning two World Series titles.

Verlander has represented several franchises, one of them being the New York Mets, who are valued at about $3.5 billion per Forbes. In contrast to his stints with other teams, however, his time in Queens was not as successful as initially expected.

Coming off a Cy Young-winning championship year with the Houston Astros, Verlander signed a massive two-year, $86.6 million contract with the Mets in December 2022. Unfortunately for all parties involves, the Mets underperformed in 2023, and Verlander was eventually traded back to the Astros ahead of the trade deadline, after only five months in New York.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Verlander reflected on his time with the Mets. Though things didn't go to plab on the field, the ace admitted he still looks back on that time in his life with a lot of fondness.

On Wednesday, Justin Verlander posted a statement to social media, announcing that he was going to hang up his cleats at the end of the 2026 season.

For the 2026 season, Verlander has a 0-1 record, and a 12.27 ERA.
