Dindigul Corporation on Wednesday conducted a welfare camp for the benefit of the sanitary workers and their families.

Dindigul Collector Durgamoorthi, Mayor J. Ilamathi, Corporation Commissioner J. Prem Anand, City Health Officer Muruganand and other officials participated.

The Collector said with the main objective of ensuring that the benefits of the schemes implemented by the State government reach sanitary workers, the Tamil Nadu Sanitation Workers Welfare Board had been established, and the enrolment of members was underway.

For sanitary workers who had obtained membership identity cards, various measures including welfare schemes, social security, livelihood support, skill development, and financial inclusion for both the workers and their family members were being implemented under the Sanitation Workers Development Scheme, she said.

To ensure that sanitary workers and their families are informed about the government schemes and benefits, the district administration organised the special camp. Similarly, special camps would be conducted across Dindigul district, she said.

Sanitary workers attending the camps can apply for membership in the Welfare Board and the existing members can apply for financial assistance. Medical insurance schemes and general medical check-ups are also provided at the camps. Loan assistance is available for sanitary workers to start self-employment ventures. Sanitary workers wishing to start their own businesses can avail themselves of the services through the camps, she said.
