Novak Djokovic left Wimbledon defeated but far from disheartened after Jannik Sinner ended his pursuit of a record 25th Grand Slam title with a straight-sets victory in Friday’s semifinal.
The seven-time champion received a huge ovation as he walked off Centre Court following the 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 defeat, prompting questions over whether the 39-year-old would return to Wimbledon.
Djokovic, however, is not ready to call time on his remarkable career.
“I would like to, at least one more time. Let’s see,” he said when asked if he would return as a 40-year-old for Wimbledon’s 150th edition next year.
Despite falling short of a 39th Grand Slam singles final, Djokovic said his run to the last four showed he could still compete with the best.
“Of course, I’m disappointed. I wanted to win Wimbledon. That’s the reason why I’m still pushing myself so hard,” he said.
“But the tournament was positive in terms of the attitude on the court, the fighting spirit, the dedication. I mean, it’s still there.”
Djokovic will now turn his attention to the US Open, where he won the most recent of his 24 major titles in 2023.
“I don’t have any pressure or no one is forcing me to play,” he said. “I do it because I really want to and because I still can. I still can play as a top-10, top-five player.
“Let’s see what the future brings.”
