The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) on Saturday urged the Tamil Nadu government to withdraw the recent electricity tariff hike and take immediate steps to address recurring power outages across the State.

In a statement, DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant said frequent power cuts and higher electricity charges had adversely affected farmers, small businesses, traders, and the general public. She said the outages were disrupting agricultural activities, industries, and daily life, and called on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the Electricity Minister to take urgent corrective measures.

Ms. Premallatha also urged the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply, continue providing free electricity for agricultural activities, and announce measures in the upcoming Budget session to enhance power generation and restore Tamil Nadu’s status as a power-surplus State.
