The on-duty staff at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital (GGSMCH), Faridkot, allegedly wheeled out and dumped the body of an unidentified patient near a cremation ground outside the hospital.

The hospital administration swung into action after the lapse was brought to light, retrieving the body and placing it in the mortuary. Taking a stern note of the incident, a junior resident (JR) doctor — a first-year MS (Surgery) student — along with the entire nursing and support staff on duty in the surgical ward, has been suspended with immediate effect. A high-level inquiry has also been ordered.

CCTV video footage showing hospital staff pushing the body on a wheelchair towards the cremation ground has been recovered and handed over to the Faridkot police. Medical Superintendent Dr Neetu Kukkar confirmed the strict disciplinary action against the medical staff. “We have constituted a departmental committee to thoroughly investigate this insensitive lapse,” Dr Kukkar said.
