Deputy Commissioner Preeti chaired a meeting of district officials at the District Secretariat to review arrangements for the peaceful conduct of the Kanwar Yatra.

She said police personnel would be deployed along the main and other routes, while the police would remain on high alert during the yatra. She directed Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) to install warning signboards along riverbanks and remove cannabis plants from their respective areas.

The DC instructed the Health Department to remain prepared to provide medical assistance to kanwariyas, if required. She said the route plan should ensure smooth movement within the city and minimise inconvenience to the public. She also stressed the need for adequate facilities and measures to prevent accidents.

Appealing to organisations setting up kanwar camps, she urged them to avoid using plastic cups and plates, keeping in view the sentiments of devotees. She said kanwariyas from Yamunanagar should register with the district administration and carry Aadhaar or another valid identity card. She added that sound systems and tableaux accompanying the yatra should not exceed 10 feet in height.

The DC also advised kanwariyas travelling on motorcycles and other two-wheelers not to remove silencers or drive at high speed to avoid causing inconvenience to the public.

She directed officials to mark yellow stripes on roads along the National Highway. Organisations planning to set up kanwar camps must obtain permission from the concerned SDMs. She said camps should be located at a reasonable distance from places of worship of other communities, while parking should be arranged away from roads to ensure smooth traffic movement. She further directed organisers to install CCTV cameras and provide separate toilets for men and women at the camps.

Superintendent of Police Kamaldeep Goyal instructed police officials to set up checkpoints at district borders to inspect modified vehicles and maintain law and order during the yatra.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Naveen Ahuja, Municipal Commissioner Mahavir Parsad, ASP Ashish Chaudhary, Chhachhrauli SDM Jaspal Singh Gill, City Magistrate Piyush Gupta, DDPO Narender Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Divya Mangala, DPRO Dr Manoj Kumar and other officials attended the meeting.
