Delhi University on Monday announced several anti-ragging initiatives, including setting up two joint control rooms to monitor violations, ahead of the new academic session. It also issued an advisory cautioning students against tampering with their admission documents through AI.
As of Monday evening, a total of 45,316 candidates had confirmed their admissions by paying the requisite fees, the university said, adding that the window to accept applications and pay fees will close at 11.59 p.m. on Tuesday. The second list will be released on July 25, and the session will commence on July 28.
On Monday, DU Proctor Professor Manoj Kumar Singh held a meeting with principals, heads of departments, hostel authorities, DU Students’ Union office-bearers and police officers regarding measures to curb ragging. Following the meeting, an official said, “The university has decided to set up two joint control rooms to monitor violations of anti-ragging rules. Additionally, banners and posters will be put up across campuses and within colleges listing the punishments for flouting the rules, which include suspension, expulsion, cancellation of admissions, cancellation of degree, withholding of results and debarment from classes.”
On Sunday, the university’s admissions branch warned applicants against uploading AI-generated or digitally altered documents. It advised students to submit scanned copies of original documents, including marksheets and identity proofs, without any modifications, noting that advanced verification tools will be employed to detect such alterations. Failure to comply will result in the cancellation of the candidate’s admission, it added.
Dean of Admissions Haneet Gandhi said on Monday, “Our team has been carefully scanning each document and checking the QR codes on them. We found that many of the documents are fake or have been altered.”
She added that they had come across documents in which marks were changed using AI. The university is considering developing a digital tool to verify documents for the upcoming admission cycle, Ms. Gandhi added.
