Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko has urged the Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya to direct the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) to expedite establishment of a sub-regional office in Tiruchi.
Mr. Durai Vaiko called on the Minister in New Delhi to press the demand on Monday. In a memorandum to Mr. Mandaviya, Mr. Durai Vaiko said that consequent to an earlier request made by him, the ESIC headquarters had instructed the Regional Director, Chennai, and Joint Director, Salem, to take steps to operationalise the Tiruchi sub-regional office, initially with a minimum staff strength from the Salem sub-regional office.
Subsequently, the ESIC headquarters had allotted the site code and sub-regional code and the Salem sub- regional office floated a bid in January to rent a suitable office in Tiruchi. However, there had been no progress in the matter and a suitable building had not been finalised yet, several months after the closure of the bid.
“Further, an officer-in-charge for the Tiruchi sub-regional office has not been appointed by the ESIC headquarters. It is understood that the bifurcation of and transfer of files, records, and staff from the regional office, Chennai, and the sub-regional office, Salem, have not yet commenced,” Mr. Durai Vaiko said.
Contending that the establishment of the ESIC’s sub-regional office in Tiruchi was of immense importance as it would improve administrative efficiency and service delivery, Mr. Durai Vaiko called upon the Minister to intervene in the matter and ensure that the sub-regional office in Tiruchi was established at the earliest.
Mr. Durai Vaiko said the Minister had responded positively to his request and directed the officials to initiate steps for the establishment of the office at the earliest.
