Dylan Larkin could still be with the Detroit Red Wings when training camp opens, according to NHL insider Chris Johnston.

Speaking on The Chris Johnston Show, Johnston said talks surrounding Larkin have gone quiet since the NHL Draft and added that he wouldn't be surprised if the Red Wings captain is still with the team when camp begins.

Larkin requested a trade earlier this offseason, but little progress has been made. One reason is his full no-movement clause, which gives him control over where he can be traded.

The Red Wings captain has reportedly approved only four destinations which includes the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars. Detroit, meanwhile, has not shown any sign of lowering its asking price, making a deal difficult to complete.

Dylan Larkin remains under contract through the 2030-31 season after signing an eight-year, $69.6 million extension that carries an average annual value of $8.7 million.

Even with trade talks slowing down, Dylan Larkin remains one of the biggest names available on the market.

Last season, Dylan Larkin scored 34 goals and added 33 assists in 74 games. However, the Red Wings missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for another year.

One analyst has even suggested the Edmonton Oilers should look into a deal if the Detroit captain becomes available.

Last month, The Athletic asked its NHL staff to assess whether pursuing Larkin would make sense for each team. Oilers writer Allan Mitchell said Larkin could give Edmonton another option at center if the club decides to play Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on the same line.

Mitchell added that Edmonton would likely have to move Darnell Nurse to make the money work. Otherwise, he believes Detroit could receive a stronger offer from another team.
