An elderly woman was allegedly murdered in a suspected case of murder for gain at Prahladapuram under the Pendurthi police station limits in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. Gold ornaments worn by the victim, identified as K. Pydamma, were reportedly missing.

According to the preliminary investigation, the 70-year-old woman was sleeping alone in her house when the incident took place.

Police suspect that unidentified persons entered the house during the night, killed the woman and decamped with the gold ornaments she was wearing.

The Pendurthi police rushed to the spot, shifted the body for post-mortem examination and registered a case. Investigation is underway.
