England defender Jarell Quansah has been handed a two-match ban after he received a red card during his side’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 clash against Mexico on July 5.

    The 23-year-old was sent off in the 54th minute of England’s 3-2 win after a dangerous tackle on Mexico’s Jesus Gallardo.

    The FIFA Disciplinary Committee announced on Thursday that the defender had been found guilty of serious foul play, due to which he is set to miss the quarterfinal against Norway on Saturday and the subsequent semifinal if England advances.

    “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed the following sanction on England’s national-team player Jarell Quansah, who was sent off as a result of a direct red card during the FIFA World Cup 2026™ match between Mexico and England played on 5 July 2026 at Mexico City Stadium: 2-match suspension for a breach of article 14 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” the body said in a statement.

    “The suspension will be served in the upcoming match(es) of the representative team of England in the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and in accordance with art. 69 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” it added.

    England ‌had been weighing a possible appeal after FIFA overturned a one-match suspension ‌imposed on United States ​striker Folarin Balogun earlier in the tournament.
