Spain's 2026 FIFA World Cup-winning hero Ferran Torres had his mural in Barcelona vandalised within 24 hours. Torres scored the final's only goal in extra time against 10-man Argentina in New Jersey on Sunday (July 19).
Coming on in the second half, the Barca attacker dealt the decisive blow to the Albiceleste in the 106th minute, latching on to a pass from fellow substitute Nico Williams, who had seen an earlier effort ruled out for a foul in the build-up.
The victorious La Roja squad received a rapturous welcome on their arrival back in the country, with a mural built in the Barcleona neighbourhood of Garcia dedicated to Torres.
However, as per Futbol y Politica, the mural was vandalised with an offensive slogan within 24 hours:
With his strike in the title match, Ferran Torres ended a 10-game scoreless streak at the FIFA World Cup, having scored twice on his competition debut at Qatar 2022, where La Roja lost on penalties to Morocco in the Round of 16.
Fast forward four years, the Barca attacker made his only start in the campaign-opening goalless draw with competition debutants Cape Verde before coming off the bench in all seven remaining games.
Ferran Torres has one year remaining in his contract with FC Barcelona. However, as per reports, his future at the Camp Nou appears far from certain despite scoring Spain's winner in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final win over holders Argentina.
Torres, 27, is coming off a solid 2025-26 season, scoring 21 times and assisting thrice in 49 games across competitions. That includes 16 strikes and two assists in 33 games in La Liga, where Hansi Flick's side successfully defended their title. He also scored once in three games in their victorious Supercopa Espana campaign.
However. despite Robert Lewandowski's departure, Torres isn't considered as a serious option for the vacant No. 9 role. As per Sport (via Barca Blaugranes), the 'hurt' striker could be headed to Paris Saint-Germain, who have made an offer for his services. Real Madrid and Liverpool are also said to be in the fray.
Barca would like the FIFA World Cup winner to stay but aren't mulling any changes to his role or salary and are waiting to hear his thoughts about his future.
