The New Jersey State Police on Sunday issued a severe weather alert at MetLife Stadium ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Spain and Argentina.
The alert read: “For your safety, please leave the outdoor seating bowl and field area and take shelter inside the stadium due to to severe weather. Pease do not gather at entrances. Use the space on the ramps. Event staff is able to guide and assist you.”
The Argentina vs Spain final is set for an afternoon kick off at 2 PM local time. However, there have been suggestions that the game could be delayed by a few hours due to the smoke from the Canadian wildfires, which has created hazy conditions across the country.
On Saturday, Spain’s training session was suspended because of storms and lighting in the area, forcing the players to move indoors for warm-up session.
Argentina’s training session was also eventually cancelled, with New York experiencing persistent rain since morning on Saturday.
