Morocco defender Issa Diop will not be able to play in the FIFA World Cup semifinal should the Atlas Lions beat France in the final-eight clash in Boston on Thursday.

Diop was shown a yellow card for a rash challenge on Kylian Mbappe, which meant an automatic suspension for the centre-back in Morocco’s next World Cup clash.

Diop, who had been a France international in the age-group tournaments, was Mbappe’s teammate in the victorious French team at the U-19 European Championships of 2016.

Through lineage, Diop also eligible to play for Senegal and Morocco at the senior level, and chose the latter, earlier this year.

He started in all but one of Morocco’s matches in this World Cup, and scored once, against Netherlands in the round of 32 clash.
