Spain and Argentina are locked in a tense battle in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at the New Jersey/New York Stadium on Sunday.
With both teams struggling to break the deadlock, it leaves Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez facing the prospect of stepping up for a penalty shootout. The Argentine keeper had starred at the same stage during the final in World Cup 2022.
Across his club and international career, Martinez has faced 43 regular-time penalties and saved nine out of those.
In penalty shootouts for Argentina, Martinez has saved 10 out of 24 penalties. He helped La Albiceleste through two shootouts at the last World Cup, against the Netherlands in the quarterfinal and then against France in the final.
