A fight broke out between Spain and Argentina players after the former completed a 1-0 win to clinch the FIFA World Cup 2026 in New Jersey on Sunday.

The skirmish started after Leandro Paredes held Eric Garcia by the neck shortly after the full-time whistle. Gavi, who did not play the game, charged at Paredes to confront him.

This started a wider tussle between players as Thiago Almada also clashed. Argentine head coach Lionel Scaloni had to step in to get his players away.

Many reports claimed that Paredes was shown a direct red card for grabbing Garcia’s neck. However, the FIFA match centre did not reflect it.

The Argentine players had been involved in a clash after the England semifinal as well with Valentin Barco and Jude Bellingham clashing with each other.
