Huge unspecified quantity of paddy procured from the farmers and stocked in the procurement centre at Ainthaamkattalai near Alangulam was destroyed in a fire that broke out on Tuesday noon.

With strong westerly winds blowing in this region, the fire spread rapidly destroying around 25,000 bags in no time.

Fire tenders from Alangulam and Tenkasi rushed to the spot to control the fire.

Tenkasi District Collector Ranjeet Singh visited the fire ravaged paddy procurement centre to assess the damage caused in the mishap.
