Former MLA and senior Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader T.P.M. Sahir, 83, passed away in Kozhikode on Saturday (July 25, 2026).

    He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode due to age-related ailments.

    A prominent figure in the socio-political landscape of Malabar, Sahir represented the Kozhikode-2 (now Kozhikode South) Assembly segment.

    An engineer by qualification holding a B.Sc. in Engineering, he seamlessly blended his professional expertise with public service, playing key organisational roles in the IUML over several decades.

    ​In addition to his political career, Mr. Sahir was involved in educational, social, and environmental causes. He was a director of M.E.S. Engineering College, a syndicate member of Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), and held leadership positions in various civic organisations, including the Calicut Jaycees and Muslim Educational Society initiatives.

    ​The last rites will take place at the Thoppayil Juma Masjid in Kozhikode at 5.30 p.m.
