Drew McIntyre has reacted after it was reported that a former World Champion is leaving WWE. The Scottish Psychopath has been out of action since WrestleMania 42.
He lost to Jacob Fatu at the premium live event and remains occupied with acting commitments. While fans await his return, he recently reacted to the reports of Sheamus departing WWE after nearly two decades with the promotion.
Fightful Select reported that the Irish superstar has opted to leave the company after his contract expires. It was mentioned that he was reached out to for a restructured contract while he recovers from an injury but he turned down the offer.
The news quickly gathered pace, and Sheamus even dropped WWE references from his social media and went back to using his real name. Now, with his departure imminent, McIntyre shared a couple of photos of himself with the Fighting Irishman on X, paying a subtle tribute to him.
The throwback photos included one from their early wrestling days before they became global stars, and the other photo was from when they shared the ring at WrestleMania 39.
The friendship between the two stars goes way back, and even before they became co-workers in the Stamford-based promotion. The duo have teamed up, beaten each other up numerous times, and entertained the fans together for years.
Sheamus' departure closes the book on their time together with the sports entertainment giant.
WWE has already moved Sheamus to the alumni section of their official website, confirming that an exit is all but confirmed.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), he was offered a contract extension but with reduced pay, which he refused. Meltzer noted the situation is similar to what happened with Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, leading up to their exit.
Sheamus had a decorated career in the promotion, winning the World Championship four times. He also won the US and tag team championships during this time. His other achievements include winning the 2012 Royal Rumble, becoming King of the Ring in 2010, and capturing the Money in the Bank briefcase.
