The Delhi police have arrested four persons for allegedly harassing a Booth Level Officer (BLO) during the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Old Delhi’s Phatak Teliyan area, police said on Thursday (July 16, 2026).
The complainant, a postgraduate teacher (special education) deputed as a BLO, alleged that while she was conducting the exercise on July 5, one of the accused persons placed the register she was carrying on her lap and signed it despite her objections.
She alleged that the others abused her, refused to accept the enumeration forms and obstructed her from discharging her official duties.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohammad Sabreen, 44, Ateeq ur Rehman, 58, Mohammad Asif, 50 and Mohammad Aftab, 44, all residents of Turkman Gate.
“Although the incident took place on July 5, the complaint was brought to the notice of the police on Wednesday after the complainant approached the Additional District Magistrate of Old Delhi, who informed the police authorities,” said Rohit Rajbir Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The complainant consulted her senior officers before approaching the police, the officer said, explaining the delay.
An FIR was registered under Sections 221 (obstructing a public servant), 132 (assault on a public servant), 74 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The house-to-house verification exercise under the SIR began on June 30 and will continue till August 8.
