Four persons were arrested by the Mandarakuppam police on Tuesday in a chain-snatching case reported in Periyakurichi near Neyveli on July 17.

The police also recovered ₹4.2 lakh in cash, silver chain and anklets, two motorcycle and two mobile phones from the accused.

The police said R. Rajeshwari, 45, of Vadalur was riding a two-wheeler to Vriddhachalam on Friday when unidentified men snatched her gold chain and fled the scene..

Following her complaint, the Mandarakuppam police launched an investigation and nabbed S. Sabarinathan, 23, of Madurai, A. Ravikannan, 23, of Pattukottai and C. Surya, 24, of Karaikudi. The trio admitted to committing the chain-snatching and confessed to similar robberies at Jayankondam in Ariyalur district and Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai district.

During interrogation, the accused told the police that they had pledged the stolen chain to one Xavier of Viralimalai. He was arrested. A sum of ₹4.20 lakh was recovered from them. The motorcycles used in the crime and two mobile phones were also seized.

Further investigations are on.
