The Muvattupuzha police in Kerala have registered a case against four school students for allegedly assaulting a minor boy after purported visuals of the incident went viral.

The case has been registered in connection with the incident which took place at Valakom, near Muvattupuzha, on July 17, according to police sources.

The visuals show four boys in school uniform beating up another boy, wearing the same uniform and carrying a schoolbag, in a brutal manner.

Police sources said the boys are students of Class 8 and 9, and a verbal dispute over leaving a tap open led to the physical assault. “The four boys have been booked for allegedly waylaying and assaulting the victim as well as hurling abusive words at him under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act,” a senior police officer said.

The officer said the police have recorded the victim’s statement and that further action will be taken after verifying the age of the accused.
