The J&K Government has suspended four teachers who were deployed for Amarnath Yatra duty for alleged irregularities in registration.

The teachers were deployed in Ganderbal district. The suspended teachers have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, Aabid Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, Peer Mudasir and Gowhar Rashid Kullu.

As per an official communication, the district administration of Ganderbal took cognisance of certain irregularities which occurred in connection with the on-the-spot registration process for Amarnath Yatra pilgrims at the Manigam transit camp. “The matter is presently under investigation and appropriate action will be taken against anyone found involved,” an official said.

“It is hereby informed for the benefit of all Amarnath Yatra pilgrims that facility for on-the-spot registration is available at the Baltal base camp on-the-spot registration centre, subject to the production and verification of all prescribed documents and fulfilment of the requisite eligibility criteria,” the official said.

All pilgrims have been advised to obtain registration only through authorised registration centre and to strictly follow the official procedure. Pilgrims have also been requested not to fall prey to touts, middlemen or unauthorised persons claiming to facilitate registration or offering any unauthorised assistance in return for money or other consideration.

Interestingly, the administration — in another incident — had suspended the entire staff of a school in Ramban district recently after a student was found locked inside a classroom after school hours.

The student was found locked on the premises of Government Middle School, Krawah, Banihal zone, on July 4 at 8 pm, well before the commencement of the summer breaks.

An order by the Education Department stated that such an incident has the potential to endanger the life and safety of students. “Now, therefore, pending inquiry, and in terms of Rule 31 of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1956, all employees of Government Middle School, Krawah, Banihal zone, are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect. During the suspension period, they shall remain attached at Government Middle School, Krawah, Banihal zone, till further orders,” the order read.

It was further ordered that a committee comprising three officials would ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the incident and fix responsibility on the part of the officials found responsible for the lapse and recommend appropriate action.
