England secured its best finish at a FIFA World Cup since it became champion in 1966 after beating France 6-4 in the third-place match at the Miami Stadium on Saturday.
England scored four in the first period, and France threatened to mount a comeback with four goals in the second half, before Bukayo Saka scored late from the spot to complete his hat-trick and Jude Bellingham sealed the game deep into stoppage time.
Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa also grabbed goals for the Three Lions in the first half.
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe grabbed a brace for Les Bleus, which took him to the top of the Golden Boot standings as well as the all-time top scorers list with 22 goals, one above Argentina’s Lionel Messi.
Meanwhile, Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele got on the scoresheet while Michael Olise set up both of Mbappe’s goals to take his tally to seven, breaking Pele’s record of most assists in a single edition of the World Cup.
