The Government Whip and Visakhapatnam West MLA, P.G.V.R. Naidu (Ganababu), on Saturday (July 18, 2026) called upon every citizen to actively participate in building a clean, green, and healthy Visakhapatnam under the State government’s prestigious ‘Swarna Andhra – Swachh Andhra’ initiative.
Participating as the chief guest in the ‘Swarna Andhra – Swachh Andhra’ programme organised by the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) at Sriharipuram on Saturday, Mr. Naidu said this month’s ‘Swarna Andhra – Swachha Andhra’ programme is being conducted with a special focus on the enumeration of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs).
Institutions generating more than 100 kilograms of solid waste per day, consuming over 40,000 litres of water per day, or having a built-up area exceeding 20,000 square metres are identified as Bulk Waste Generators. Such establishments must scientifically manage the waste generated on their own premises in accordance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, and the directions of the Supreme Court, he said.
Keeping the monsoon season in view, the MLA also stressed the need for special measures to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. He stated that indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste into drains obstructs the free flow of water, leading to mosquito breeding.
Swachha Andhra Corporation Director M. Nagalakshmi, GVMC Additional Commissioner P. Nallanayya, and Chief Medical Officer of Health E.N.V. Naresh Kumar and others were present.
