Officials of the GST Intelligence Wing, along with personnel from the Income Tax Department, searched the residence and business premises of a scrap dealer near Perundurai on Friday (July 10) in connection with an alleged Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion case.

The searches were carried out on the premises of Selvakumar, a scrap dealer from Ellaimedu near Ingur, following allegations that he had failed to pay GST on his business transactions for several years.

A team of GST Intelligence officials from Coimbatore reached his residence on Thursday evening. However, Selvakumar left for the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital, Perundurai, citing ill health. The officials, with the assistance of the Chennimalai police, entered the house and began the search after he left. Selvakumar later returned from the hospital, following which the search continued through the night and into Friday.

Sources said officials scrutinised financial records, account books and other business documents as part of the investigation into the alleged GST evasion. Personnel from the Income Tax Department are also assisting the inquiry.
