A cab driver was killed in a horrific road accident on the Dwarka Expressway on Friday afternoon. An iron rod from the e-rickshaw pierced right through his chest after his cab rammed into it, and he died on the spot.

A woman passenger accompanying him fainted from shock at the time of the accident and was rushed to the hospital. The police have arrived at the scene and are conducting an investigation.

According to the police, the accident occurred around 2 pm on Friday. A white car was traveling along the Dwarka Expressway when it collided with a red e-rickshaw carrying iron rods near AVL Society. The e-rickshaw was loaded with iron rods, a significant portion of which protruded from the vehicle and there were no warning markers attached to indicate the projection.

The impact was so severe that the front of the car was completely wrecked. Iron rods loaded on the e-rickshaw pierced through the car and went right through the driver’s chest, killing him instantly. The woman accompanying him in the car went into shock upon witnessing the accident and fainted. A crowd gathered at the scene following the crash and immediately informed the police.

After receiving information, teams from the Sector-37 police station and the traffic police reached the spot. The police then extricated the driver’s body from the cab and sent it to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the female passenger, who sustained serious injuries, was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

A traffic jam ensued following the accident. Police personnel moved both vehicles to the side of the road and restored the flow of traffic. Subsequently, the police detained the e-rickshaw driver and questioned him; he stated that he was driving slowly when the car struck his vehicle from behind.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that speeding and a rear-end collision were the primary causes of the accident. We are also examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras to ascertain the exact cause of the incident,” said a senior police official.
