The bodies of a man and a woman were found in Agra Canal in Faridabad on Sunday. Both Akash (23) and Rashmi (27) had injuries on their faces, and their hands were tied together with data cable.

The police have sent the bodies for a post-mortem examination.

A senior police officer said that the cause of death and the sequence of events would be confirmed based on the post-mortem report and forensic analysis.

The BPTP police had already registered an FIR on July 12 under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint filed by Shivam Kumar, a resident of Sector-31. In his complaint, Shivam alleged that Akash, who frequented a gym in Sector-31, had been harassing his wife Rashmi for some time. Although Akash had apologised after being confronted earlier, he had resumed harassment over the past 10 days.

On July 11, around 2 pm, Rajni left home in her car to meet Akash. Around 4:30 pm, information was received that a young man and a woman had jumped into Agra Canal near the BPTP bridge.

Upon reaching the scene, the police found Rajni's car. On searching the vehicle, the police found two mobile phones and a blood-stained hammer.

The police said crime scene experts, forensic teams, and other investigative agencies had also collected samples from the site.

Since Saturday evening, the SDRF and other rescue teams had been searching for the two individuals in the canal. The scope of the investigation has now widened, following the recovery of both bodies near Shahpur Kalan on Sunday evening.

Ajay Nagar, Akash’s brother-in-law has termed it a murder. He alleged that Akash was summoned as part of a conspiracy, after which both of them were killed.

“The police are now working to determine whether the woman died from a hit by hammer or by drowning in the canal. An investigation is also under way to determine how their hands were tied. The police are piecing together the sequence of events based on the post-mortem report, forensic evidence, mobile phones and other electronic evidence.
