Former India opener Wasim Jaffer has opined that seamer Gurnoor Brar should primarily be used in ODIs and Tests and not be rushed into T20Is. His remarks came after the second ODI of the three-match series against England, played on July 16 in Cardiff, which the Men in Blue lost by four wickets.

Brar has claimed four wickets in the two games so far in the series and has 11 scalps to his name in five ODIs. Speaking during a discussion on his YouTube channel (Wasim Jaffer Official), the 48-year-old said that Tests and ODIs suit the 26-year-old better. He added that Brar may not be as effective in T20Is because batters will look to attack him. Jaffer said:

Jaffer also spoke about Jasprit Bumrah, who has claimed two wickets in as many games and has looked in fine rhythm after a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, where he managed just four wickets in 13 matches. The former opener noted that the break after the IPL has helped Bumrah, adding that the pacer looked jaded during the tournament. He said:

The 32-year-old has claimed 151 wickets in 91 ODIs, including two five-wicket hauls, with best figures of 6/19.

During the same discussion, Wasim Jaffer questioned Kuldeep Yadav's absence from the playing XI, noting that the team needs a wrist-spinner in the middle overs. He added that if India continue with finger spinners, they are likely to face a few problems. Wasim Jaffer said:

Kuldeep Yadav has taken 194 wickets in 121 ODIs, including two fifers and a best of 6/25.
