A Head Constable of a special team in Madurai district, Raja, sustained bleeding head injuries after he was attacked by a three-member gang at Perungudi on Monday.

Based on a tip-off about some persons creating a ruckus near Anna Nagar, Mr. Raja, who is part of the special crime team, had rushed to the spot.

Even as he was enquiring three persons, a quarrel erupted between them.

Mr. Raja, who was in civvies, had told them that he was a policeman and continued to interrogate them.

However, the trio attacked him with stones on his head and fled the scene. The injured is admitted to a private hospital for head injuries. Perungudi police are investigating.
