Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu July 27 announced that the state government would prepare a white paper on the alleged corruption, financial irregularities and administrative lapses during the previous BJP government. He said a committee to draft the white paper would be constituted at the next Cabinet meeting to place facts before the public and ensure accountability for acts of omission and commission during the BJP’s tenure.

Addressing the media here, Sukhu said the exercise would be conducted in a fair and impartial manner. He accused the Opposition of trying to divert attention from alleged irregularities committed between 2017 and 2022.

Launching a fresh political attack over defections, the CM claimed that despite what he described as a BJP-sponsored rebellion by Congress MLAs earlier this year, people had reaffirmed their faith in his government by electing Congress candidates in the by-elections. He remarked that while any Congress MLA was free to join the BJP, several BJP legislators were in touch with the Congress leadership, though the party was not interested in inducting defectors.

Highlighting his government’s record on recruitment, Sukhu asserted that not a single recruitment examination paper had leaked during the Congress government’s three-and-a-half-year tenure. In contrast, he alleged that the police recruitment paper leak and the question paper sale racket in the erstwhile Staff Selection Commission surfaced during the BJP regime.

He said the Congress government dissolved the Subordinate Selection Board within four months of assuming office to restore public confidence in the recruitment process. Responding to BJP national president JP Nadda’s criticism on recruitment issues, Sukhu alleged that the senior leader had been misled by the BJP’s state leadership.
