“Misled” by Google Maps, tourists who had set out for Kashmir Valley reached a village of the same name in Nadaun Assembly constituency of Hamirpur district yesterday.
The villagers were surprised as they spotted a three-wheeler carrying tourists roaming around on the narrow village road. The tourists were identified as Australian citizens, as per social media.
Notably, Kashmir village is located on the banks of Maan Khud, one of the tributaries of the Beas river. The village has a population of over 1,500 persons.
It is believed that the tourists might have searched for Kashmir while crossing highways in Una district. However, Google Maps took them to the village of the same name in Hamirpur district.
Hazara Singh, a local, said not only the villagers but the tourists themselves were confused after reaching the village. However, they enjoyed the trip and talked to the people, who guided them the right way. He said they were advised to go to Nadaun and then to Pathankot via Kangra to reach their destination.
Hazara Singh said similar incidents had occurred many times in the past as well.
