A history-sheeter, along with five other associates, was arrested at gunpoint from a star hotel near Guindy in Chennai on Thursday, police said.

The accused, Dhanasekar, a resident of Ennore, had been absconding in connection with several cases, including allegedly threatening industrialists for extortion.

Acting on the instructions of the Avadi City Police Commissioner, a special team of police personnel from the Ennore police station surrounded the hotel and apprehended him after a swift operation, said sources. The police seized a firearm, a luxury car, and a mobile phone from his possession.

Further investigation is under way. He was also wanted in connection with an extortion case of ₹1 crore from a businessman in Kattur.
