A video of a worker at the Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital (GMKMCH) getting a bribe from a patient's relative was shared widely on social media on Saturday (July 18, 2026).
In the video, a worker of the hospital appears to take a patient in a stretcher into the lift. After entering the lift, he is seen demanding money from the relatives, and he receives ₹100 from them. Denying that he received ₹100, the worker claims that there are eight staff members in total, and then later receives the money. As the video was shared widely on social media, the hospital administration has inquired into the issue.
Hospital sources said that the worker was identified as Thangaraj. An inquiry was conducted into the issue and a report was sent to the hospital dean. He will be placed under suspension in a day or two, sources added.
