The Khundian police in Dehra of Kangra district have arrested two employees of a private convent school at Sunhet in connection with the abetment to commit suicide case involving a 14-year-old Class IX student. The arrested persons have been identified as Abhishek Kumar, hostel warden, and Rakesh Kumar, school bus driver. They were arrested on Wednesday in connection with an FIR registered against them on July 5 following the student’s death on July 4.
The case was registered on the complaint of the deceased student’s father, Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Thamwa village. He alleged that four school employees had abetted his son’s to die by suicide. An FIR (No. 26/2026) had been registered under Sections 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in the matter.
Dehra SP Sandeep Dhawal said that immediately after the FIR was registered, the police launched a manhunt for the accused and collected scientific and physical evidence with the assistance of the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory, Dharamsala. During preliminary investigation, the police found that the student had been strangulated, the SP added.
The other two accused, Bharat Singh, Managing Director of the school; and Gunjan Kumari, school principal, had secured anticipatory bail. The police were questioning them for their alleged involvement in the case.
The SP said that the investigation was being conducted from all angles in a thorough and impartial manner. He added that further legal action would be taken in accordance with the available evidence, scientific reports and other findings.
