Karim Adeyemi admitted Hansi Flick’s faith in him was the decisive factor behind his move to Barcelona, with the Germany international revealing the coach’s belief convinced him to embrace what he called a “unique opportunity.”
Officially unveiled after completing a transfer worth up to €29 million, Adeyemi has signed a contract with the Catalan club until 2031.
Having previously worked under Flick with the German national team, the 24-year-old said the Barcelona manager wasted little time in outlining the role he envisioned for him.
“The main reason I’m here is Flick. I spoke to him from the very first moment and he explained what he needed and what he wanted from me. I’m here to do whatever the team needs,” Adeyemi said.
The forward, who is comfortable across the front line, insisted he has no preferences over his position.
“I don’t care where I play. I’ve played in all attacking positions. I’ll play wherever the coach tells me and wherever I can help the team the most.”
Adeyemi revealed that his discussions with Flick centred not on tactics or guarantees, but on commitment.
“We had a long conversation, but I never asked him where I would play. He’s very important to me. I told him I was ready to give everything, and he asked if I was prepared to do that. I’m here to train hard and help the team.”
The move comes after what Adeyemi described as a disappointing campaign, making Flick’s backing all the more significant.
“When I found out about Barcelona’s interest, I couldn’t believe it because last season wasn’t my best. Flick was a pillar of support. He told me, ‘I want you, but I need you to give everything.’ For me, this is a unique opportunity.”
Adeyemi also spoke of fulfilling a childhood dream by joining a club whose greatest inspirations include two Barcelona icons.
“My role models and idols at Barça are Messi and Ronaldinho, although there are many others.”
